A "bridal trial"... Is it really worth it?
Should I do a makeup and hair trial for my wedding?"
I get asked this question all the time and my response is,"would you buy your wedding dress without trying it on?" The answer is probably going to be NO, and for good reason. Your wedding day is a day you have been dreaming of since you were a little girl and you want to make sure that everything, including your makeup and hair, is exactly the way you had envisioned it. However, many times when a bride is trying to save money (understandably) so she will forego the trial and "hope for the best," on her wedding day.
So why is a trial important? Here are my professional "2 cents."
1. I feel it is very important for a bride to meet the makeup artist and hair stylist in person. This is someone (or a team) who will be with you on your wedding day and you want to be sure that it is a good fit. Having a trial will allow for you to communicate with them in person and see how they interact with you prior to your wedding.
2. During the trial, I create the look with my brides and if there is something that she wants to adjust or change, we are able to do that and make notes of that as well. If you're having your makeup and hair done for the first time on your wedding day and there is something you don't like, more likely than not, you won't be able to make adjustments because you are on a schedule and need to stay on that schedule.
3. The way a certain "style" looks on Pinterest could be very different than how it looks on you so I like to make sure that my brides are incredibly confident and happy with the look. Having a trial lets you know how the style will hold throughout the day. Maybe you need some extra pins in your hair or a lipstick that is lasts longer... having a trial will help determine what adjustments need to be made to make your wedding day run smoothly and save time.
4. It makes the "Day Of" much smoother. Let's be honest... you are going to stress a bit on your wedding day! It is par for the course, but by knowing a head of time what your makeup will look like, how your hair will be styled and also knowing the professionalism and cleanliness of your artists, it will help ease your nerves and make you feel a little more relaxed (that and some champagne)
... And who doesn't love to be pampered, even for a couple of hours?
